It is a constant source of wonder to me that with nothing but a squeeze of paint, some good brushes, and a receptive surface you can tell a story. Transparency, reflections, the power of a flowing stream, a beam of sunlight illuminating the surrounding buildings, can all be captured on canvas. The hope of pulling off that little miracle every now and then is what brings me to the canvas almost every day. I paint in two styles, depending on the subject. One is impressionisti c. The paint is the star, and brushstrokes can be bold. There is more interpretation, and expression. I use another method when I’m so enthralled with the subject that I want to capture it completely as it is, editing only to achieve good composition. Then I use thin glazes until the desired effect is achieved. This results in a more realistic painting.
I started painting when I was a kid, and was fortunate to have a high school teacher who was also a wonderful artist. His beautiful figurative paintings were inspirational. So, while earning a living first as a brewing technician, and later as a tax CPA, painting was always in the back of my mind. I was fortunate to be able to leave the world of accounting early, to pursue a career in painting. My husband and I split our time between Colorado and Arizona. I have been fortunate to study with some of my favorite artists including Kim English, Kevin Wechback, Mark Daily, Michelle Torrez and Doug Dawson. I exhibit regularly in local, regional and national shows.
